Silkies are
calm, friendly and rather lively birds which are unable
to fly so can be kept with very low fencing and they also
do very little damage to the garden. However they do tend
towards broodiness and make wonderful mothers despite being
rather poor layers.
They don’t
have waterproof feathers so they need to be kept in dry
conditions but require little room so can be kept in smaller
runs. They have a lifespan of around 9 years and can be
tamed and considered a real pet which makes them especially
suitable for children.
PEKIN The Pekin is a very gentle bird
with fluffy feet. They are good layers of small eggs but
are broody, making them great mums. They make excellent
pets for children as they are tame. They settle very well
and require little space. They tend not to scratch around
in flower beds so are good birds to keep in an urban garden.
They are normally a robust and long-lived bird that loves
company.
There are many colours available
and they are a great birds to have in the garden, they are
decorative, friendly, full of personality and lay approx
160 eggs per year.
